About Me

SAM / 23 / SCOTLAND / HAIR OBSESSIVE

I love hair and experimenting with different colours. I have plenty of experience as I have been dying my hair myself at home since I was 13. I have also made plenty of mistakes along the way which I have learned from so I would like to share my thoughts and give advice to others.

and then there was brown...

Hey Everyone,

I haven't posted in over a year now.  I have been going through some personal issues since my last post and was feeling quite down and un-motivated.  I didn't feel that my bright hair reflected my personality at the time and felt like it was too much effort for me to maintain.  So I decided to dye my hair... brown!!  I never used to think I would end up back with the hair colour that I used to call "boring brown"

After about a month I got bored (lol!) and put a small amount of ombre in the ends, then about a month after that dyed the ends turquoise, followed by all over brown, followed by a lot more ombre, now I'm back to all over brown again!

Here's a some pictures of my hairstyles from the past year (not in order).  Most recent is the glasses pic (I need glasses for the computer now!):

I no longer feel that brown hair is "boring" and I feel it works for me in my busy life.  However, I do really miss having red hair but I don't think I could put my hair through all the bleaching I had to do at the start to get that colour!  I will be staying brown for now but I still like to mix things up and I am considering trying Manic Panic over unbleached hair.

This year, I have also made 2 life decisions, number 1 is since February I became Vegetarian.  It's something I had been considering for a while and one day just decided to take that step and I haven't looked back.  I feel really positive about knowing that no poor animal has to be killed just so I can eat.  There are plenty of other options out there! It can be difficult but I feel I am much more adventurous with cooking and trying new things than I ever was.  I have also experimented with veganism but this is something that would take me a while to convert to.

This month, I have also made the decision to only use 'Cruelty Free' cosmetics & household goods.  This is something that I also feel good about.  Although animal testing is now against the law in Europe (yay!), it is still a requirement in other countries.  I hope that the more people start supporting cruelty free products it will encourage other companies to follow in their footsteps.  Anyway - the point of that rant was to say that as a Cruelty Free user, I am limited to the hair dyes I can use.  However, next month I will be trying Lush's Henna Hair Dye in 'Brun' - nervous / excited for this!

Bye for now,

Sam x

orange red!

I had the pinky purple colour for a couple of months.  It lasts really well but does stain a lot!! I decided that I fancied a change (nothing new there!) and wanted to do an orangey red instead.

About 3 weeks ago I bought Special Effects - Hot Lava and applied it over the pink and these are the results!  My roots also went like a 3 tone shade which you can see slightly in the second picture - yellow, orange then orange-red!!  Reminded me of Hayley William's fire hair which is never a bad thing!

This is how its faded after 3 washes

It lasts quite well but I think it looks dull quickly so I will be changing again this weekend!  I got these results because I applied over pink hair.  However, if applied over bleached blonde hair I don't think you will get similar results.  The results you get will be like a copper-orange.

fishtail braid

I'm absolutely loving fishtail braids at the moment!  I thought it might be quite difficult but I watched a video on YouTube and it is actually so easy!  This is the video I watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smJvLUl89ko and this is my attempt! Mine isn't as neat because of all my layers but I'm trying to grow them out!!

purple adventures!

1. My hair - I decided to do a purple / pinky colour!  I used Directions - Rubine and this is the result!  I really like this colour and it lasts really well.  This picture was taken after 1 wash.

2. Aimee's hair - She had been wanting to change from the dip dye and go for an all over colour and after seeing my she wanted the same colour!  I used the same dye (Directions - Rubine).  Her colour came out more pink than mine because I had put mine on top of red.  Here are the stages & results!

3. Aimees Hair 2 - After 2 weeks we both decided that her hair would look nicer if it was more purpley!  When I did her hair this time I used 1 tub of Directions - Rubine & mixed in 1/3 tub of Directions - Plum.  This is the result and I love this colour!!

Total fail.

So randomly decided to chuck a different colour on as I was getting bored and fancied a change. I bought L'oReal Feria - Mango Intense Copper

It's quite different I know but I just think this colour is gorgeous! My hair was quite faded anyway so I just figured I would put it over the top as it has peroxide in it anyway.  But no, this didn't quite turn out the way I planned.

A bit multi tonal!  I changed it back again the next day haha!

Turquoise dip dye

Hello! It's been a while! I have lots of posts to add - I've been a bit lazy lately!

Firstly, my sister in law Aimee wanted to change from her pink dip dye to Turquoise.  I really wish I could get my hair turquoise but unfortunately my hair has been red for so long that it won't lighten enough! :(

The first step is to lighten the ends with bleach, when I applied the bleach to her hair the pink just seemed to come out straight away!  The tricky part is to get the best shade of blonde so that the turquoise will turn out right.  If it is white blonde it will turn out more greeny and gingery blonde will go more blue!

I used Crazy Color - Peacock Blue on Aimee's hair and this is the result...!

I am so in love with this colour and so jealous!  It has lasted really well, she came round for a top up after 3 weeks but I didn't even think it really needed done...!

Another post coming up! x

More dip dye!

After seeing my own dip dye my boyfriends wee sister and cousin both wanted me to dip dye their hair too!!

Aimee wasn't sure what colour to do hers but as her hair is light brown / dark blonde either bright pink or purple would look best. We went for manic panics hot hot pink!

Shaunie has been wanting to dye her hair lilac all over for a while but as lilac can be a slightly dull colour I think it would look better dip dyed on her platinum blonde hair.

Anyway, here's the results!

Products used:

Aimee - Manic Panic - Hot Hot Pink
Shaunie - Crazy Color - Lilac (I also mixed a bit of the colour for Shaunie's hair with conditioner to apply at the top of the colour to help blend as her hair is so light)
