About Me

SAM / 23 / SCOTLAND / HAIR OBSESSIVE

I love hair and experimenting with different colours. I have plenty of experience as I have been dying my hair myself at home since I was 13. I have also made plenty of mistakes along the way which I have learned from so I would like to share my thoughts and give advice to others.

fishtail braid

I'm absolutely loving fishtail braids at the moment!  I thought it might be quite difficult but I watched a video on YouTube and it is actually so easy!  This is the video I watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smJvLUl89ko and this is my attempt! Mine isn't as neat because of all my layers but I'm trying to grow them out!!

purple adventures!

1. My hair - I decided to do a purple / pinky colour!  I used Directions - Rubine and this is the result!  I really like this colour and it lasts really well.  This picture was taken after 1 wash.

2. Aimee's hair - She had been wanting to change from the dip dye and go for an all over colour and after seeing my she wanted the same colour!  I used the same dye (Directions - Rubine).  Her colour came out more pink than mine because I had put mine on top of red.  Here are the stages & results!

3. Aimees Hair 2 - After 2 weeks we both decided that her hair would look nicer if it was more purpley!  When I did her hair this time I used 1 tub of Directions - Rubine & mixed in 1/3 tub of Directions - Plum.  This is the result and I love this colour!!

dip dye / ombre

hi guys :)

So I have really wanted to try out the dip dye look for a while now but you mainly see it on blonde / brown hair rather than bright red hair :/.  I have seen a couple of pics of people with red hair and orange tips and I love this combination so decided to try it for myself!  I only wanted to do a small amount on the tips and this is the result I got...

How To Achieve

For the tips I used Fudge Paintbox - Goldfinger and I also had to top up the red in my hair and decided to use Manic Panic - Rock 'n' Roll Red which I haven't tried before...

voila!

if anyone decides to try this out for themselves send me a picture i'd love to see :)

New hair colour & cut - result!

Well I dyed my hair orangey red a couple of weeks ago which I really like.  As I mentioned in my last post, I used 'Directions - Mandarin' mixed with 'Directions - Fire'.  I used the whole tub of Fire and about half the tub of Mandarin.  After I mixed it it looked a bit too light so I also decided to mix a little bit of 'Directions - Ebony'.

And I just got my hair cut (desperately needed!) and got a fringe too!

Here's some picturesss....

The colour is probably closest to the top picture :)

pinterest

Pinterest is a great site for sharing pictures of everything!  I particularly like looking at hair pictures ;).  Hairbomb (where I order my hair dye from) has their own Pinterest page which i love (pinterest.com/hairbomb).  I decided to make my own as well (pinterest.com/dyeaholic) so far it consists of hair pictures and pictures of Hayley Williams :/.  Anyway, here's a compilation of a few of the pictures that I liked...

goodies!!!!!

Yayy I get so excited buying hair dye goodies!

Soo I decided to dye my hair using manic panic in vampire red again. I really like manic panic, the tubs last me about 2 & a half dyes and it goes on really well.  it just fades / washes out too quickly but then again so do them all!  I also bought some more rubber gloves and some pink and green sectioning clips :D

I ordered from hairbomb.com and the best part is FREE SWEETS!!!!!!! :D well, this time I only got one measly little maoam :( but I have had the little love hearts in the past and even bobbles matching your hair dye! Awesooommee.

much love x

different reds i've tried...

ok so i've tried a few different brands / types of red dye.  first of all, live colour XXL is shit.  no pictures of that cos they suck.

semi permanents are the only way to have super bright hair.  just needs to be applied over bleached hair for the best result...

Manic Panic - Vampire Red

Directions - Poppy Red

Reviews

  • Vampire Red - Quite a pinky red and will stain clothes & skin if you have wet hair (washes off though!).  Overall a nice colour but doesn't stay red long enough for my liking.  3 stars!
  • Poppy Red - This one is my favourite.  It's quite cheap (cheaper on glitterstore.co.uk) and gives a nice red colour.  Bad thing is it also seems to go pink when it fades which is frustrating!  4 stars
  • Fire - only had this 1 day and haven't washed it yet so we'll see!  I had just bleached my roots before applying and it has made my roots a very bright pink and i'm not too sure how this will last.
  • Wella Colour Touch - this was recommended by the woman at sallys.  it was very expensive (£10) and you also have to buy cream peroxide to develop the colour which is about £1 for 100ml.  Very complicated compared to other colours.  You have to mix a certain amount with peroxide (20ml of peroxide for 10ml of colour).  The woman at sallys said i would only need 10ml of colour.  As it is a 60ml bottle i thought this would be good value for money as she also said it would last over 15 washes.  I actually needed 30ml and only just had enough.  It also started to fade after only 3 washes to a gingery red.  Peroxide also damages your hair long term so not good as i would have to use it every week.  Not impressed and will not be using this again!  1 star.

pinky purpley!

on hairbomb.com they have a gallery full of pictures of lovely bright coloured hair!  (you should have a look they're so pretty - i could look at hair pics all day long!).  i came across this picture and fell in love with the colour

i must have this colour!!!! i hadn't seen any other dye like it so i decided to come up with my own concoction.  that's the great thing about these semi-permanent dyes its like being an artist and you can mix colours together to get the shade you want.  i used:
and this is the result i got........

i was very pleased! it turned out almost identical to the picture.  however, as it faded it was very bright pink which i didn't like too much.  and ended up going back to red after about 3 weeks!

blonde to red

so, for my 21st birthday i decided i wanted to go from brown to blonde!  well, lets just say it didn't go so well...  i had been blonde before and knew what i needed to use but as my hair had been bright red a few months before it was very difficult to get the red out so my blonde attempt was, well, ginger.  This is a picture of my hair the best i could get it!  It's more of a strawberry blonde but it was verryyy damaged.

I had been using a silver shampoo to tone down the red which helped a little.  I went to the hairdressers to see if anything could be done with it.  They look a sample of my hair and bleached it using a very low volume but the sample was completely frazzled!  She said all I could do was either go dark again or keep using the silver shampoo.  I felt that going back to brown would have been a waste of money for all the bleaching i had done!  So, I decided to go red again!

muuuch better!! :D i used Directions Poppy Red mixed in with a teeeny bit of Directions Ebony to make it a little darker.  I normally get my hair dye from either hairbomb.com or glitterstore.co.uk
